"Wedding Photography" - By Mr. Pon Prabakaran -- Winner of the Best Wedding photographer of the year 2018 held by Better Photography
Article in the Press: Link
Mr. Pon Prabarakan
Starting off his career as a part-timer in a studio during college days, and was drawn into photography while editing photos taken in the studio. As days went by, his interest in photography grew and he became passionate about it. He continued learning more and made many friends in the process.
The past five years have been truly enriching as far as the experience he has gained.
As days turned into months and months into years, he realised wedding photojournalism is his forte, and strong point. Trying to break free from the mainstream wedding photography, he realised capturing special moments at weddings from a different perspective is a lot more satisfying. He is of the opinion that the best way to shoot wedding photographs is when the people are not posing for the camera, resulting in photos filled with soul and honest emotions..
Member's monthly meeting 24th August 2019(Saturday) Confluence 2019 Perspective of the Juries and the Printer on the entries received at PS High School, Mylapore
PSM is happy to announce the program for August 2019- "Confluence 2019 - Perspectives of Juries and Printer" a special presentation regarding the quality of pictures submitted for Confluence 2019 Members photo exhibition.
We have successfully conducted Confluence 2019 and the Exhibition was well received by the visitors and the quality and selection of photos were well appreciated. Credit goes to the Members of the Jury, who are the speakers for the Aug monthly meeting and Nara for printing. We get feedback from members that they want to know the basis of selection on which some of their images were selected and others were rejected though they were good in their perception. Also while printing, Nara had to further process the pictures in order to get a quality output as required by Exhibition standards.
To answer queries on selections and rejections, we requested the Members of the Jury and the Printer, to handle a session on what they look for as a jury in the entries and Nara to discuss on how the post processing of image can be improved to get a quality print suitable for Exhibition.
We feel this feedback session will help members in selection of photos for exhibitions / salons / competitions etc.

Known for his technical acumen and the application of this knowledge on the field is something which he is always passionate about sharing. As in any technical field, he believes there is a gap between technology and art and craft, how the technique mixes with art. When its done in the right proportion the outcomes are often repeatable, predictable and artistically appealing.
Mr Rithwik will be sharing his experience on shooting every day landscape. Mixing technique with art always provides a new horizon to look at everyday landscape in new perspective and there for creates appealing images even from your backyard. But here experiencing the technology to create images to make it appealing is the key.

Member's monthly meeting 25th January 2019(Friday) "Nature Photography - Using a Bridge Camera" by Dr. Raj Kumar Jayapal
PSM wishes its members a very Happy New Year 2019
PSM is happy to announce the program for January 2019 -- "Nature Photography - using a bridge camera" by Dr. Raj Kumar Jayapal
Being an avid nature watcher since childhood, Raj (Dr. Raj Kumar Jayapal) has always had an unquenchable thirst to be amidst nature and wildlife. Although he had hired a 35mm film-roll camera between 1998 and 2001 for a few trips from a local photo-studio, the true and humble journey of digital photography begun in 2010.
Showered with loads and loads of tips during the photographic trips with Jagadish Sunkara Jai (a PSM member), he revers him as Dhronacharya for hisphotographic spirit and output. Jag was also instrumental in refining the pictures by giving regular feedback on time and probing that amateur photographer in him, in terms of getting the right composition in the field, while also had rightly guided to join PSM in 2011, after which he has become a Life Member with PSM. His photography took flight in the right direction attending so many meetings and being part of a few trips with the PSM group. Though initially reluctant about videos, a tiny leaf-munching caterpillar had pushed him into the world of videos, which he still records to showcase the macro and avian worlds in motion to the world connected to him. Since he did not have camera in the initial few trips that he had accompanies his photography friends, he had to make use of the spare point-and-shoot cameras of Jag and Sam (Samudhiram) and take tips from Suresh and Thiagarajan V (PSM member). When he decided to become a shutterbug himself, he took his guru’s advice seriously and started off with a bridge camera to get the pictures right before graduating to DSLR. However, he strongly believes that the time for the first DSLR in his life has not come yet and may not come at all!
Started off with a simple and effective bridge camera and went on upgrading based on 2 key parameters, zoom power and quality of videos.
To bridge the distances between the subject and the lens he has been using and upgrading his Bridge Cameras regularly:
Olympus SP-565UZ – 10MP Digital camera with 20x zoom (640mm equivalent),
Olympus SP-800UZ - 14MP Digital Camera with 30x zoom (840mm equivalent),
Olympus SP-31Z MR – 16MP Digital Camera with 24x zoom and Full HD Video capacity, Nikon P900 with 83x zoom (2000mm equivalent)
and the latest one added to his kit is Nikon P1000 with 125x zoom (3000mm equivalent). He is the first person in Chennai to purchase Nikon P1000 from a shop a few days before Deepavali.
He longs to be amidst nature, especially in and around Chennai. He loves to observe the key natural historic moments and if possible, share these wondrous moments with the world with ample researched notes for each and every picture and video shared. A camera and a tiny light-weight tripod had become constant companions to this educationist, who now works with Murugappa group and heads the E-Learning initiatives of the group. He even carries the shutterbox to his office and shoots wildlife in and from the gardens of the Parry’s Building regularly, as part of his breaks.
Although nature and wildlife has been his primary focus, he is also into temple inscriptions, both capturing and deciphering them, while few facets of architecture devoid of godly images also take part in his very limited photographic horizon.
