PSM Photowalk 1

- Mylapore 09-Aug-2009

On Sunday, 9 Aug 09 at 7 am, a motley PSM group assembled at Rasi Silk near the Kapaleswar Temple. The group comprised: Bhagya, Chandrasekaran, Ganesh Pajanissamy, Krishna (Venkatakrishnan), Poochi Venkat, Ramanakumar, Ramesh, Sivakumar (guest), Sridhar, Srini, Sujatha and Vivek. We were joined by T K Ramkumar, PSM's legal advisor and long-time resident of Mylapore who had been requested to guide the group to capture the life and times of old Mylapore.

And old Mylapore it was! As we took a route south-east behind the temple, we came across small lanes and by lanes where time had obviously stood eminently still. It was impossible to believe that in the epicentre of Chennai, there existed places where the structures and the people living there looked as if they had nothing to do with the 21st century!

One of the first stops was at a 'Gurkulam' where we were invited in to watch young Brahmin boys learning 'Sandyavandanam'. Further on, we saw old houses and shops, some more than 100 years old. At one point, we were invited into an old house. Here, a very shy and beautiful daughter-in-law and her imposing and majestic mother-in-law posed for several photographs.

After seeing several interesting and unusual sights, the group repaired to Sarvana Bhavan where hot idlis, pongal and vada took over the POV.

We intend to hold such Photowalks regularly once the PSM Salon 2009 is over. Members are requested to offer suggestion where we can have these Photowalks.
