Where am i ? Society Bye-Law Memarandum and Objects



Every successful enterprise has its goals, mission statement and rules, without which it cannot survive the changes that time brings and the PSM like all successful societies has a well thought out and planned memorandum and vision. This is quite evident in the throes of its existence through two World Wars and its times of difficulty. These are the plans of people who made the history of Madras and are still doing it. Reading this part is essential for anyone who desires to be a member and part of this historic adventure. Please read it if you are serious about being involved.

MEMORANDUM AND OBJECTS OF PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF MADRAS

I. GENERAL

1. The Name of the Society is "The Photographic Society of Madras".
2. The word “Society” shall henceforth mean the Society and include all members of the Photographic Society of Madras.
3. The address of the Society shall be No.55, Third East Street, Kamaraj Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai – 600 041.
4. The Society traces it origin to 1857.

II. AIMS, OBJECTS & ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION

1. To promote the Art and Science of Photography.
2. To encourage fellowship amongst members of the Society.
3. To publish photographic materials in all forms of media including but not limited to books, journals, bulletins and web-based media.
4. To offer for sale, merchandise associated with photography to include but not limited to cameras, accessories, clothing, books, life style products etc.
5. To organize and conduct meetings, lectures, demonstrations, projection of films and slides and technical discussions relating to the Art and Science of Photography.
6. To impart education and training in the area of photography to a wide spectrum of interested participants including to eligible students from Government schools so as to provide a vocational opportunity.
7. To facilitate participation of members of the Society in photography related exhibitions, conventions, seminars, and other forums and related activities.
8. To organize and conduct photo-fairs, conventions, seminars, workshops and exhibitions both domestically and internationally.
9. To organize and conduct competitions in photography of all genres, study of prints and negatives and all forms of photographic works.
10. To subscribe and acquire photo journals and books including e-journals and e-books and to maintain a library and reading room.
11. To organize and maintain portfolios between members and photo clubs of pictures, slides and films.
12. To establish stock photographs contributed by members and to offer them for sale in either digital or print media.
13. To seek affiliation with any national or international photographic organization(s) with similar objectives.
14. To acquire land and establish the infrastructure in the name of the Society to include a studio and dark-room for the use of the members, hall(s) for holding exhibitions and conducting the activities of the Society, library etc. as deemed fit by the Executive Committee.
15. To establish and promote social and cultural relations and co-operation between the Society and the public at large through the medium of photography.
16. To organize social gatherings, photo-picnics and any other cultural program including indoor and outdoor photography.
17. To carry out assignments in photography and create opportunities for photographers to include but not limited to portraits, events, facilities, table tops, get-togethers etc.
18. To do any other activity or function as may be considered to be incidental or conclusive that may directly or indirectly help in the attainment of the objectives of the Society.

II (a) INCIDENTAL AND ANCILLARY OBJECTIVES

1. To acquire by purchase, take on lease or otherwise lands and buildings and all other property, movable and immovable, which the Society, for its purposes, may from time to time think proper to acquire.
2. To open an account or accounts in the bank or banks with powers to operate thereon and in particular to draw, make, accept, endorse, discount, execute and issue promissory notes, bills or exchanges, warrants and other negotiable or transferable instruments.
3. To apply the property and income of the Society solely towards the promotion of the objectives of the Society.
4. To sell, exchange, mortgage, encumber, lease, hire or otherwise deal with any property whether movable or immovable belonging to the Society.
5. To do all such other lawful acts as may be necessary and incidental for the promotion and welfare of the members of the Society.
6. To represent, as a Power of Attorney holder, on behalf of the members of the Society to the Panchayat / Corporation or any government body and to any Court of law etc. for any matter relating to the welfare of the members of the Society.
